Chinese Export Black Lacquer Triple Folding Games and Tea Table
Probably Canton Circa 1790
This extensively gilt decorated table has two drawers, one compartmentalised for chess and backgammon pieces and also cards. The other is a complete backgammon board. The first leaf folds over to reveal a plain card table with a refined gilt border of interlocking ovals, the second flap reveals a substantial chess board with foliate surround and geometric border. The third flap reveals a tea table, extensively decorated with pavilions beside water among a forested and mountainous landscape.

This table has an ingenious folding system involving a gate leg which is extremely fragile and needs to be handled with care when moving or operating.
