Pair of Commodini with Fossil Marble Tops

PAIR OF ITALIAN COMMODINI WITH FOSSIL MARBLE TOPS

Sicily.   Circa 1770

Width 21 ½” (55cm) Depth 12 ¾” (33cm) Height 33 ½” (85cm)

The inset fossil marble tops are enclosed by a curved wood edge above a ‘D’ shaped body enclosing two drawers with later added brass handles all geometrically inlaid and cross banded. There are three horizontal inset metal grooves above, in the middle and below the drawers. The quarter veneered sides form rectangular panels each centred by a six petal flower head. Each cabinet is supported on four elegant tapering curved legs The locks are original. There are old repairs to one marble top and the back boards on the other have been replaced.

This pair have excellent patination and colour. The fossil tops are equally beautiful. These are a very desirable pair and are highly recommended.
