A Huge Cuban Mahogany Dining Table of Outstanding Quality

England

First-half of the Nineteenth Century

An exceptionally large mahogany dining table, the Cuban mahogany of remarkable quality with superb figuring and outstanding colour.   Unusually the entire table is

constructed of the very best mahogany, including the under-bearers.

The rectangular top comprises in its smallest configuration the two D shaped ends and a small central leaf; it can be extended to include up to six further leaves. It is supported at each corner by four acanthus and scroll carved cabriole legs terminating in claw feet, and with two central cabriole legs with claw feet supporting the double action winding mechanism, with makers marks for Samuel Hawkins, London.

Fully extended, the table seats 22 people comfortably.

The present table represents a virtuoso example of the art of the cabinet maker.

In forty years of specialising in dining room furniture this is the finest nineteenth century dining table that we have ever handled.
