A FOUR FOLD EBONISED SCREEN FRAMING A COLLECTION OF INDIAN MICA MINIATURES

The screen constructed in England circa 1890 to hold the collection of miniatures from the first half of the nineteenth century.

The screen of four hinged ebonised wood panels, each panel with a glazed upper section above an ebonised wood panel below, the reverse with fabric covered upper panels, the four glazed panels framing an interesting collection of fifty one Indian miniatures painted in vivid colours on mica, the miniatures depicting various Indian folklore characters, different modes of transport, a number of festivals and processions, and a fascinating group of Indian ornithological studies.
