This exquisitely carved and well-proportioned table retains its original pale blue and cream paint.
The marble top sits above a panelled frieze with beaded border enclosing a Vitruvian scrolls and leaf design flanked by flowerhead capitals with a central double ‘C’ and foliate carved apron, above four elegantly carved, turned and fluted legs terminating in toupee feet. Each side frieze mirrors the decoration to the front.
The Gris des Ardennes quarry appears to have been only open during the 18th century when it was used for furniture.
