Pair of Chinese Cabinets

A PAIR OF CHINESE HUANGHUALI, LAOHUALI AND BURR WOOD CABINETS

China.   Probably Qing Dynasty

Both of these cabinets, created with rare and beautiful timber, are of octagonal form with the implication of good fortune and high status.

Each has a single drawer above a pair of hinged doors opening to reveal a plain interior. The doors are of Chinese classical style, with dowels fitting into sockets in the framework and thus serve as hinges.

 Measurements: width 24 ½” (62.3 cm) depth 19 ½” (49.5 cm) height 23 ¼” (59 cm)

                     Ewbanks, Asian Art, lot 1077 12.11.20

                     Property of a Lady, UK.

                     Purchased by Mr and Mrs Ellard 9^th July 1994 from Tomlinson House

                     No 40 Lorong 31 Geylang, Singapore who attributed both cabinets to the

                     Qing Dynasty.  The certificate and invoice from the latter purchase are

                     available.
