A pair of candlesticks with silver capitals and bases, the stems comprised of alternating silver and rock crystal sections. The silver is chased throughout with a design of scrolling leaves and flowers, highlighted with white and black enamel and further embellished with turquoise, garnets and paste cabochons. The pair is presented in its original fitted box, lined with burgundy velvet.
Rock Crystal is a pure, colourless quartz, valued since ancient times for its spectacular clarity. Indeed, it is so clear that the Ancient Greeks even believed it to be water that had solidified underground – hence the name ‘crystal,’ from ‘krystallos,’ the Greek for ice. Here, this miraculous material has been combined with silver and precious gemstones to create a spectacular, opulent effect.
