A FRENCH PROVINCIAL WALNUT COMMODE
Regence Circa 1720
This restrained bombe shaped commode has two long and two short drawers with gently carved and panelled fronts flanked by angled, carved and shaped ends above a shaped apron and terminating in hoof feet. The panelled sides are bordered by ogee mouldings also above a continuous moulded and shaped apron.
This charming provincial commode with its simple carving and elegant lines is in striking contrast to the extravagant opulence of the palace furniture of same period.
