Bronze with a green and brown patina mounted on later stand. This sculpture is cast 5 from an edition of 6.
Conceived in 1924 at the prompting of his close friend Sir Muirhead Bone it was originally intended as a commission for the Polish government (but never purchased). Of the finished work an impressed Conrad had this to say, “the bust of Ep. has grown truly monumental. It is a marvellously effective piece of sculpture with something more than a masterly interpretation…It is wonderful to go down to posterity like that.”
