Four Chinese Watercolour Panels

A SET OF FOUR CHINESE WATERCOLOUR WALLPAPER PANELS IN RED FRAMES WITH ROCOCO BORDERS

In red frames with rococo borders

Probably Canton circa 1780

Height 34” (86 cm ) Width 21 ½ “(54 cm)

The four delightful painted panels depict families pursuing day to day pastimes beside houses in a tree lined and mountainous landscape. These would originally have been part of the extensive wall decoration of a major room in an important residence.

Some fading, wear and old restoration due to the panels being removed from their original interior position and framed.  One panel in particular has numerous restored creases and cracks. However, over all these are extremely pleasing and highly decorative.

Provenance: Acquired from E. Noel, a leading West Country dealer, in 1981
