Victorian Leather Sofa

Scotland | c. 1870
A superb quality and very comfortable Victorian sofa made by Mackenzie & Mitchell of Edinburgh, retaining its original soft red leather buttoned upholstery beautifully worn to a fantastic warm colour on turned and carved lobed legs with Copes Patent brass casters.
Mitchell & Mackenzie had a shop at 129 Princes Street and were "Cabinetmakers, Carpet Manufacturers, Upholsterers, Bedding Manufacturers, Carvers and Gilders and Importers of Foreign Stuffs". They were well established and had important clients including the Earls of Haddington at Tyninghame.
