Lacquer Console Table in the Chinoiserie Taste

Probably Flemish | c. 1815
The entire surface with raised lacquer work on a faux tortoiseshell ground. The rectangular top displays a pair of phoenix in a mountainous and wooded landscape with figures, pavilions and vegetation beside a river and contained within a floral and hatched border. The frieze depicts figures, flowers and bridges in a riverside landscape. There are four turned circular column supports each entwined with a sinuous dragon. These legs are united by carved and shaped stretchers with foliate and hatched decoration and terminating in bun feet.
